Summer Food Service Program 2024

Summer Nutrition Program Site Finder

Program Mission

The Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP) was created to serve nutritious meals to children when National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program meals are not available. To ensure all children receive proper nutrition throughout the year, SFSP reimburses organizations that prepare and serve meals to eligible children during the summer and school vacation periods.

Energy Assistance Program

Need help paying your bill? If you are falling behind on your bill, don’t be afraid to contact Citizens Energy Group. Various sources of assistance are available, and Citizens may set up flexible payment arrangements to help customers catch up on past-due bills. Low-income customers may be eligible for financial assistance through the Energy Assistance Program (EAP).

Last year, nearly 24, 000 Citizens customers received energy assistance from various sources, including the state’s EAP, the Winter Assistance Fund, trustee's’ office, Citizens’ Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation and Citizens’ Universal Service Program. This winter various forms of assistance will be available again.

Applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the newly established Low Income HouseholdWater Assistance Program (LIHWAP) are now open. Visit www.in.gov/ihcda and click on “Homeowners & Renters” for information on qualifications and how to apply.

In addition, Citizens Energy Group encourages customers who are behind on their bills to call 317-924-3311 or visit www.CitizensEnergyGroup.com/Help for additional sources of assistance and to establish flexible payment arrangements.

FREE C.O. AND SMOKE ALARMS

Citizens Energy Group and the Indianapolis Fire Department want you to be safe this winter. Home fires occur more in the winter than in any other season, and half of all home-heating fires occur in the months of December, January, and February. In addition, carbon monoxide (CO) incidents are more common in the winter months as the result of malfunctioning furnaces,, fireplaces, and fuel-burning space heaters. CO is an oderless, colorless gas, and leaks are potentially deadly.

Visit www.indy.gov/IFD to request free CO and smoke alarms. You also can click the “Keep it Safe Indy” tab for fire prevention tips and pointers on other safety topics, including heating and cooking. To download the “Put A freeze on Winter Fires” document, visit www.nfpa.org/winter
